In a potential preview of the region-championship game, the Callaway and Lamar County girls’ basketball teams put on a show.

In a high-scoring, fast-paced game, it was Lamar County outlasting Callaway 78-69 on Friday in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Lamar County will be the number one seed for next week’s region tournament, while Callaway will be seeded second.

Lamar County beat Callaway in last year’s region-title game.

Niakoe Burks led the Lady Cavaliers in scoring with 18 points, and she was 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Camryn Stargell and Kierra Jackson were strong inside with 16 points and 13 points, respectively.

Gabrielle Johnson chipped in with nine points for Callaway.

Tomiyah Alford had a big night for Lamar County with 37 points.

Callaway closed the regular season at 13-9 overall, and 9-3 in the region.

In the boys’ game, Callaway wrapped up the regular season with an 83-48 win over Lamar County.

Callaway will be the number two seed for the region tournament, while Spencer is the number one seed.

Javontay Boddie led the Cavaliers in scoring with 21 points, with 19 of those points coming in the first half.

Demetrius Coleman added 18 points, and he made two 3-pointers and was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Antinez Blount and Duke Simpson each scored 12 points, and Jacob Freeman and Jalin Shephard had nine points apiece.

The Cavaliers finished the regular season 11-10 overall, and 9-3 in the region.
