It was a senior day to remember.

Before Sunday’s home showdown with Maryville, the two seniors on the LaGrange College women’s basketball team were recognized.

Riley Chlupacek and Marilauren Farr then went out and helped the Panthers get a 71-59 in their final home game of the season.

Chlupacek torched the Maryville defense for 18 points, and she was 6-of-7 on 3-point attempts.

Farr added 15 points, and she made some huge plays down the stretch to help the Panthers hold off the Scots.

Jahpera McEachin, who was 5-of-6 on 3-point attempts, led the Panthers with 19 points.

The Panthers (12-11 overall) improved to 6-8 in the USA South.

“What a terrific college basketball game today against a talented Maryville team,” LaGrange College head coach Lee Buchanan said. “Our team once again played their hearts out and this time came out on top. I am so happy for our players, especially our seniors.”

The Panthers were clinging to a four-point lead when McEachin pulled down a rebound and scored to give her team a 58-52 lead with 6:12 to play.

It was still a six-point game when McEachin’s 3-point attempt found the bottom of the net, and the Panthers had a 68-59 lead.

With 48 seconds to play, McEachin was fouled while making an off-balance shot, and she made a free throw to cap the scoring.

“Marilauren and Riley both played so well and led the charge today,” Buchanan said. “Marilauren played big minutes and made some huge baskets in the fourth quarter to help hold the lead. Riley was outstanding in the first half with her 3-point shots. Her baskets early set the tone for our team and gave us a bunch of confidence.”

LaGrange closes the regular season with road games against Wesleyan on Wednesday and Covenant on Saturday.
