Two fatalities and one life-threatening injury were reported after a head-on collision occurred on Georgia Highway 14 near Teaver Road Saturday night. According to Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Jeremy Hilley, a 16-year-old was driving northbound when his vehicle crossed lanes and struck a car going southbound.

GSP is not releasing names at this time. Hilley said the vehicle going southbound had five occupants, and the three people in the backseat were not restrained at the time of the collision.  Hilley said the 16-year-old driver told officers he had fallen asleep.

Hilley said one of the passengers died on the scene, and the second one succumbed to their injuries after being life-flighted to an Atlanta area hospital. The third injured passenger was seriously injured and taken to a Columbus area hospital, Hilley said.

Hilley advised that drivers should be careful if they are feeling tired on the road.

“Pull over, take to somewhere safe in a parking lot and take a nap if you need to just to regain your composure before you get behind the wheel,” Hilley said. “Because if somebody falls asleep behind the wheel, it could lead to a serious accident like this one.”
