William Washington Johnson, Jr., “Bill”, died February 7th, 2019.

He was born to Ruth Callaway Johnson and William Washington Johnson, Sr. in Decatur, GA on February 5th, 1940. He was pre-deceased by his parents Bill and Helen Johnson.

Bill attended LaGrange High School where he served as the Key Club president, Beta Club president and Speaker of the House of Representatives at the Georgia Youth Assembly.

He graduated from Georgia Tech where he served as the president of the Wesley Foundation, served on the President’s Advisory Cabinet, and the Judiciary Cabinet, and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.

He served in the United States Navy for seven years and was a Vietnam veteran. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He served as supply comptroller on the USS Ticonderoga and served as Dispersing Officer, Naval Facility, American Embassy, Nicosia, Cypress.

He returned to LaGrange in 1969 and joined Johnson Motors. He served as advisor to the Key Club at LaGrange High School and as District Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis Club. He was Chairperson of the Troup County for the Arts. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served in several leadership positions, namely Lay Leaders, Chair of Administrative Boards, and member of North Georgia Conference Board of Pensions and Insurance. He was an active supporter of Boy Scouts of America and a member of the Executive Committee of Boy Scouts Chattahoochee Council.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Johnson, their two sons, Patrick Johnson and David Johnson, and his two sisters, Ann Johnson Woodward (Dee) and Carol Johnson Kelley (Ronnie). His service will be Monday, February 11, 2019 at 12 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of LaGrange with visitation following.
