He’s getting his chance.

Jackson Knox, a senior member of the Troup High baseball team, has signed a letter of intent to play college baseball for Marion Military Institute in Alabama.

Knox made it official during a signing-day ceremony on Wednesday that also included five Troup football players who signed their letters of intent.

For Knox, who’ll be a key member of the pitching staff this season, it’s the realization of a goal he’s had since he began playing varsity baseball.

“Ever since my sophomore year when I got put on varsity, I’ve wanted to play college baseball,” Knox said.

Troup head coach Craig Garner said Knox has always been willing to do whatever it takes to succeed.

“This is a story about adversity, about perseverence, and about his relentless pursuit of just getting better,” Garner said. “That’s the kind of young man Jackson is. He constantly strives to get better.”

Garner added that “off the field as well, he’s as good as they come.”

Troup will open the regular season with a road game against Carrollton on Tuesday.
