The LaGrange Rotary Club hosted its annual STAR Student of the Year program on Wednesday, recognizing a representative from each local high school.

Neil Patel was named Troup County High STAR student of the year. What an honor.

Patel obviously has a bright future ahead of him and is hoping to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and study chemical engineering and economics.

Patel was selected as a finalist for the system-wide award alongside Sierra Wyble of LaGrange High School, Alexander Wilson of LaGrange Academy, Olivia Tompa of LaFayette Christian and Carlos Villatoro of Callaway High School.

All of the finalists should be extremely proud of themselves.

To be a STAR student finalist, students have to post the highest score on the SAT test on a single test date among qualified seniors, or be in the top 10 percent in their class based on grade point averages.

Congratulations to all of the finalists. We’re sure you’re all going to do great things in the future.
