After a strong showing in the Lakeshore Shootout Invitational last weekend, LaGrange High’s boys’ soccer team will get back to work today.

LaGrange, which hung tough with two of Alabama’s top teams at the Lakeshore Shootout in Birmingham, will visit McIntosh today.

LaGrange played two games in Birmingham.

In its first game, LaGrange fought Hoover to a scoreless draw.

It was an impressive effort for LaGrange against a Hoover team that is ranked third in Alabama in Class AAAAAAA.

Next up for LaGrange was a showdown with Oak Mountain, which has won seven state titles and two national championships.

Oak Mountain scored midway through the first half, but LaGrange rallied for a 2-1 victory.

In the second half, LaGrange coach Shane Pulliam said “we started competing and found our composure.”

Harrison Hunnicutt tied the game on an assist from Johnny McDonald.

LaGrange’s second goal came when McDonald was fouled, leading to a penalty kick.

Jimmy Cancina made the penalty kick to give LaGrange the lead.

LaGrange’s defense, with goal keeper Butler Evans leading the way, made that lead stand up.

LaGrange brings a 2-0-2 record into today’s game at McIntosh.

McIntosh is 6-1-1, and it lost to Carrollton 2-0 in its most recent game.
