Panthers sweep USA South series

The LaGrange College Panthers jumped into their USA South schedule with a doubleheader sweep of North Carolina Wesleyan on Monday.

In the first game, the Panthers rallied from a 4-2 deficit after six innings to win 7-5, and they completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory.

In game one, the Panthers scored three runs in the seventh inning to take the lead, and they added two insurance runs in the eighth inning.

Spencer Douches pitched two innings of relief to get the win, and Gibson Bittner finished things off with 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the save.

Richie Post started and pitched 5 2/3 innings.

At the plate, Cael Chatham had two hits and two RBIs, and Austin McDade had a pair of hits.

Liam Carbone had a hit and two RBIs, Joe Ruth and Trey Pearce each had a hit and an RBI, EJ Churchich drove in a run, and Dawson Weaver had a double.

In game two, Cael Chatham and Liam Moreno each had home runs to help the Panthers complete the sweep.

Moreno also had an RBI double in addition to his two-run homer, and Chatham had a sacrifice fly and a solo home run.

Trey Pearce added two hits, Rhett Hollon had a hit and an RBI, Austin McDade had a double, and Joe Ruth had a base hit.

JR Robinson started and pitched six innings to get the win, and Austin Fain threw three scoreless innings.
