The body pulled from Moore’s Creek in Lanett Friday afternoon has been identified as Jeremy Fetner, 41, according to the Lanett Police Department.

Captain Richard Canser said law enforcement knows Fetner’s family is from the Chambers County area, but aren’t sure exactly where Fetner lived, though is sure it’s in the Chambers/Lee County area.

The West Point Police Department issued a news release Wednesday morning asking for the public’s help in identifying the deceased. A statement from Lanett Police Department said investigators began receiving multiple calls suggesting the man could be Fetner.

Lanett investigators then met with Fetner’s family and confirmed the body recovered was him. An autopsy was done Tuesday through the Alabama Department of Forensic Science and photos of specific tattoos on the arms, legs and back were released to local law enforcement agencies.

As of Wednesday, a cause of death has not been released by law enforcement.

According to a news release from police, it appears the incident may have taken place on Wednesday, Feb. 20, when the West Point Police was contacted by an individual who said they observed a white male assaulted at a residence in the 1400 block of Avenue K. The individual couldn’t provide the victim’s name or the location of the victim. However, the resident was able to give a date and approximate time of the assault and the names of the offenders.

Based on the complaint brought to the police department and physical evidence recovered at the scene by West Point Police, Lanett Criminal Investigation Division and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation initiated a joint investigation to recover Fetner’s body.

Then, after conducting interviews with the individual making the first complaint, and speaking with the Troup County District Attorney’s Office, two arrest warrants were issued for murder.

On Monday Donald Freeman Kee, Jr., 33 and Aaron Creed, 32, were arrested and charged with murder in connection to the person found in the creek, according to West Point Police Captain Robert Fawley.

In a release by the police department, Kee is listed as residing in West Point, and Creed is listed as residing in LaGrange. According to the Troup County Jail records, both men have addresses listed in Hogansville.

According to the Troup County Jail arrest/release report from Feb. 26, Creed is also facing charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and items prohibited for possession by inmates. Creed was arrested by Troup County Sheriff’s Department Monday afternoon on the drug charge, according to Troup County Lt. Kelli Ellington. She said he was at his residence in Hogansville, and as deputies attempted to make contact, he fled on foot. After a quick chase with a K9, Creed was apprehended and taken to the Troup County Jail, where he was served with the warrant for murder.
