The Callaway Lady Cavaliers scored a pair of first-half goals, and they made that lead stand up in their Region 5-AA soccer opener against Spencer.

In the boys’ game, Spencer scored a pair of second-half goals to pull away for a 3-0 victory.

The games were played at Callaway Stadium.

Because of rainouts, it was the first time the Callaway teams had played in nearly two weeks.

If the Lady Cavaliers were rusty, though, it didn’t show.

Callaway took a 2-0 lead with a pair of first-half goals.

Jada Rhodes scored Callaway’s first goal, and Ashley Bowden scored on a penalty kick to push the lead to 2-0.

In the second half, Spencer scored to get within a goal, and Callaway’s defense made that slim lead stand up.

Lainey Hill spent most of the game at goal keeper for Callaway.

In the boys’ game, Callaway fell short in its region opener.

Spencer led 1-0 at the half, and it padded its lead with two goals in the second half.

Callaway will host Lamar County on Tuesday for a region double-header.

Troup and LaGrange were supposed to play in the Dawg Pound tournament in Opelika this weekend, but it was canceled because of weather.

Troup’s boys’ and girls’ teams also had their games at Cartersville last week postponed.

Troup and Cartersville will play at a later date since those are region games.
