Chattahoochee Riverkeeper hosting guided tour

Published 7:49 pm Wednesday, March 13, 2019

Join aboard Chattahoochee Riverkeeper’s (CRK) Miss Sally floating classroom for a Saturday afternoon on West Point Lake for the opportunity to see local wildlife. This guided tour is open to the public and will be led by CRK staff and wildlife experts.  Anticipate learning more about the fish found in the lake from Georgia Department of Resources fisheries biologists, Brent Hess and Paul Jones.

Spring is an excellent time to view ospreys and other birds on their nests. During past Wildlife Cruises, bald eagles, loons, hawks, cormorants, cliff swallows, Canada geese, mallards and coots as well as ospreys have been seen. A CRK Naturalist will be on hand to identify birds as well as share interesting facts about bird behavior. Binoculars will be provided for bird watching.

A US Army Corps of Engineers ranger will explain various ways the Corps attract and support wildlife on West Point Lake.

The tour will start and end at Pyne Road Park on Saturday, March 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. The Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for students. Preregistration is required. Go to Chattahoochee.org/wildlife-cruise-registration to register.
