BREMEN – The Callaway Cavaliers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but it was Bremen rallying for a 6-5 victory on Wednesday night in the final game of a critical three-game series.

Callaway won the first game on Tuesday, but Bremen swept Wednesday’s doubleheader to take the series.

Bremen, which beat Heard County three times last week, improved to 5-1 in Region 5-AA, while Callaway fell to 1-2 in the region.

In Wednesday’s first game, Bremen broke open a tie game with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, and it ended up winning 8-2.

After a 30-minute break, the teams returned to the field for the series finale.

The Cavaliers were looking good early, scoring two runs in the first inning, and three more in the third inning to go up 5-0.

The Blue Devils began to chip away at their deficit, and after pulling even, they won it with a run in the bottom of the seventh on a Jimbo Brown one-out triple.

Leadoff hitter Drake Wade led Callaway’s offensive effort with two hits and an RBI.

Zach Neighbors had a two-run double, and Destin Patrick had a single and an RBI.

Braelin Mitchell drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Trent Sheppard and Wesley Marchman each had a hit.

Freshman Justin Moore was Callaway’s starting pitcher, and he worked 5 1/3 innings before Austin Barber entered the game in relief in the sixth inning.

Griffin Crook got the complete-game victory for Bremen.

In the first game, Callaway was limited to four hits. Patrick had one of those hits, and he had both of Callaway’s RBIs, and Wade, Brooks Bledsoe and Austin Cardwell each had a base hit.

Walt Stewart was Callaway’s starting pitcher, and he threw 4 1/3 innings, and Barber and Jabari Smith went the rest of the way.
