It was a milestone day for LaGrange High tennis coach Kenny Moore.

When LaGrange High’s boys’ team beat Central-Carroll last week in a region match, it gave Moore his 800th victory as the program’s head coach.

Moore took over LaGrange’s tennis program in 1991, and the boys’ and girls’ teams have both been consistently successful in the nearly three decades since then.

Since 1991, LaGrange’s boys’ and girls’ teams have combined for 23 region championships.

During that same time period, Moore has guided 17 different teams to the state semifinals.

Most recently, LaGrange’s boys’ team reached the Class AAAA semifinals in 2017.

Twice, Moore has led a LaGrange team to the state-championship match.

Moore, who was also a long-time football coach at LaGrange and was a part of numerous state-championship teams, teaches calculus at the school.

“I’ve got the greatest situation,” Moore said. “I love coming to school. I never dread coming to school. Weekends are fun, they’re fine, but it’d be OK with me if we didn’t have them. I love coaching tennis. I love teaching calculus.”

Moore celebrated his big day with his friend and long-time coaching partner, David Traylor.

The two have not only been coaching alongside each other in tennis for decades, but they were also long-time members of the football team’s coaching staff.

“I’ve been coaching 30 years, and coach Traylor has been with me 42 of those years,” Moore said with a smile. “We’re great friends.”

Baker Skinner, the number three singles player, provided the decisive victory against Central.

“Baker Skinner clinched it, and he came off and found me, so that was special,” Moore said.
