Mr. Billy Joe Brooks, age 87, of LaGrange, passed away on March 18, 2019 at the WellStar West Georgia Hospice.  

Mr. Brooks was born on May 15, 1931, to the late Joe and Mabel Williams Brooks in Randolph County, Alabama.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and later in the Army National Guard. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 32 years of service.  He loved watching the Atlanta Braves baseball, enjoyed college football, especially the Auburn Tigers and vacationing in Panama City Beach, Florida.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Alice Brooks. He is survived by this wife of 63 years, Betty Kenerley Brooks; two sons, Greg Brooks (Justine) of LaGrange and Ricky Brooks (Marian) of Hamilton; daughter, Lisa Benefield (Cret) of Auburn, Alabama; sister, June Ewing (David) of Americus; sister-in-law, Roe Upton (Ted) of Branchburg, New Jersey.; grandsons, Adam Brooks (Morgan) of Newnan, Caleb and Tatum Benefield of Auburn, Alabama; great grandchildren, Hunter Brooks of LaGrange and Rhett and Rowan Brooks of Newnan; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
