This weekend, LaGrange will be filled with music, performances and fun with a variety of events taking place near Lafayette Square. 

For art lovers, the Cochran Gallery will kick off the weekend on Friday at 6 p.m. with the opening of “Transcendence: Sculptors Making Prints.” The show is curated by museum studies students at LaGrange College and draws from the collections of Wes and Missy Cochran. The gallery is located at 4 East Lafayette Square.

For those looking for a fun event that supports young performers, the Lafayette Theatre Academy will perform “The Jungle Book” on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The students with the LTA will share the classic tale of Mowgli in the Black Box Picnic Theatre at 214 Bull Street in LaGrange. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and drinks for a meal before and during the show. Doors open one hour before the performance, and concessions will be available before each show. Meanwhile at LaGrange College’s Price Theatre, there will be a performance of “August: Osage County” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The tragic comedy follows three sisters who are called home to Osage County, Oklahoma, after their father is reported missing. The cast will feature Professor Kim Barber Knoll as Violet Weston, the family matriarch, and Tracy Riggs as her sister, Mattie Fae. The play does contain explicit language and material and is not for children or preteens. Admission costs $15 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and students not from LaGrange College. For those looking for a furry friend, LaGrange Animal Services will host an off-site adoption event at Petsense from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m on Saturday. Beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, the United Leaders of Georgia will host a March and Grill, which will begin at Bell Line Park, follow Grady Street, turn onto Fourth Avenue, then Houston Street to Brownwood Street before the final stretch on Timothy Street. There will be a free community feeding for anyone at Bell Line Park following the walk.

Then, on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., the Junior Service League of LaGrange will host 2019 Taste of the Town at Overlook Plaza in downtown LaGrange. More than 20 local restaurants and food vendors are set to take part in the event. Admission is free, but the group does ask for donations at the entrance to benefit Circles of Troup County. Vendors will take cash and credit payments at individual tents/food trucks. Live music during the event will be provided by Wine on the Rocks.

For those looking for music that has inspired listeners on multiple continents, Hiroya Tsukamoto will perform at Pure Life Studios at 206 Clark Street on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $22.50 online. The venue is cash only.

LaGrange College will close out the weekend with the next installment in its Sunday Series, featuring Dr. Mary Ann Wilson, Professor Emerita at University of Louisiana-Lafayette, who will discuss “Small Town South(s) in Literature and Film.” The lecture will focus on Appalachia and will take place in Lewis Library room 317 at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
