The Boys and Girls Club of West Georgia and Chambers County recently received the League of EAGLES Award from the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

The League of EAGLES Organizational Recognition Program is for organizations that achieved 85 percent to 100 percent board involvement in the following performance standards — attending board meetings, making face to face solicitations, contributing a personal unrestricted gift, assuring the organization has a strategic plan, evaluating based on performance criteria and actively serving on a committee or task force.

The Boys and Girls Club of West Georgia and Chambers County received the Silver Honor roll, which is for 90 to 94 percent board involvement.

“The gentleman who presented this last week emphasized that this is a lot more than just giving you a plaque,” said Kevin Cain, president and CEO of the local Boys and Girls Club chapter. “We felt like it was a huge achievement.”

Sheriff James Woodruff, a longtime board member and past president of the local club, said this is the first time he remembers the award being presented to the Boys and Girls Club of West Georgia and Chambers County.

“I think it’s a testament to a hard-working board who is really dedicated to the boys and girls of our community, trying to give them a good place to go after school and helping them with their homework and helping them with life skills,” Woodruff said.

Cain estimated 325 students participate in Boys and Girls Club activities every day in Troup County. The board consists of 17 community members.
