Troup stays in first place

The Troup Tigers maintained their spot atop the Region 5-AAAA standings with a 12-5 road win over Sandy Creek on Monday.

The Tigers improved to 7-1 in the region, and they have five region games remaining, including Wednesday’s home game against the Cedartown Bulldogs.

After visiting Cedartown on Friday, Troup closes its region schedule with two games against LaGrange next week.

In Monday’s game, the men at the bottom of the order got it done.

Tre Mosley and Grayson Garner, who occupied the bottom two spots in the order, had a combined four hits, three RBIs, and three runs scored.

Mosley had two hits and three RBIs, and Grayson Garner had two hits, including a double, and two runs scored.

Leadoff hitter Caleb McCurry also had a big night with two hits, including a double, and he had an RBI.

Colby Williams had a hit and two RBIs, Colton Webb had a hit and an RBI, and Daniel Martin had a hit.

Jackson Knox was Troup’s starting pitcher, and he worked the first 3 2/3 innings before freshmen Daniel Martin and Grayson Garner finished things off on the mound.

Martin held Sandy Creek to one hit and no runs during his 2 1/3 innings on the hill.
