On Saturday at 11 a.m., the City of LaGrange Animal Shelter and the LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society will host a free community Easter egg hunt at 1390 Orchard Hill Road.

The event will be divided into three age groups, with egg hunts for children 2 to 4 years old, 5 to 7 years old and 8 years of age and older.

“Last year we had a great turnout. We are hoping for a good turnout this year,” said Mandi Bono, the director of the LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society. “This is another community awareness event to get people out to the shelter, to let them know that we are there, and hopefully, some of those dogs and cats find their future family that day.”

The event will also include an opportunity for current family pets to meet prospective pets being considered for adoption.

“The last thing that somebody needs to do is come out and get a new dog and take that dog home and have it not get along with their current animal,” Bono said. “You can have fights breakout. You can have injuries. It is more stress to all of the animals involved, and the person then feels bad for bringing the dog to the shelter because it doesn’t work out. If they can come out and give the dogs pen time and make sure everybody gets along, then we can avoid all of that stuff for the animals and for the people involved.”

The mobile adoption unit will be in the parking lot during the event, and even those who aren’t currently looking for a pet are encouraged to interact with the animals.

“The more people that these animals see come through that are friendly, that are talking to them, interacting with them, the more socialized they are going to be and the better off they will be going into their new home,” Bono said.

Egg hunt participants are encouraged to arrive early, because while there will be double the number of eggs compared to last year’s egg hunt, the eggs go fast.
