Dr. Billie Patton Waters

Dr. Billie Patton Waters, age 84, of Columbus died Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at Spring Harbor in Columbus.  A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange. Dr. Waters’ great-nephew, Dr. Andrew Weems, will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the funeral home.

Dr. Waters was born Feb. 25, 1935, in Atlanta, the daughter of Ethel Hancock Patton and William Gleaves Patton. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, her Masters of Education from West Georgia University, and her Ph.D. in Education from Auburn University. Dr. Waters taught at several schools, to include Murphy High School in Atlanta and LaGrange High School in LaGrange.

She also served as the church organist for many years at the First United Methodist Church in LaGrange. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbus.

Dr. Waters was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Ethel Janet Patton, and by her brother, W. George Patton.  She is survived by her sister, Mary Patton McGowan and her husband, Mike, of Peachtree City; a sister-in-law, Betsy Patton, of Ponce Inlet, Florida.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
