With temperatures finally on the rise, there will be plenty to do both outdoors and inside this weekend, including some options to kickoff Holy Week.

The Active Life in LaGrange will get the weekend off on the right foot with a ballroom dance on Friday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The dance is open to adults of all ages. Admission costs $20, and complementary foxtrot lessons begin at 7:15 p.m. The dance will take place in The Active Life Wellness Center at 140 Ragland Street in LaGrange. For those looking to celebrate the weekend of Palm Sunday, the Biblical History Center will host Follow the Cross Walks on Friday and Saturday. The tour focuses on Holy Week, and begins with Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. It concludes with the resurrection. Reservations are required. Then, on Saturday at 8 a.m., registration will open the first annual Lupus Awareness Rally, Walk at Callaway Stadium. The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Lupus Foundation of America. For more information, contact Maria Harris at (706) 302-9013.

Also at 8 a.m., the Kiwanis Club of LaGrange will take part in the 8^th annual Sporting Clay Tournament at Big Red Oak Plantation in Gay, Georgia. The tournament will be a 100-target, 18-stand competition. Entry costs $500 for a four-man team and includes lunch from Sloppy Pig, prizes and awards. Another good option for those planning to spend the summer on the water will be a boating safety course that is being hosted by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxilary Flotilla and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at West Point Lake, which will run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday. The course will provide information on legal requirements, navigation rules, watercraft accident prevention and new boating laws. The course meets Georgia’s law that requires completion of a safe boating course for anyone born after Jan. 1, 1998 who wishes to operate a personal watercraft or boat without adult supervision. Then, beginning at 3 p.m., volunteers will have the opportunity to help those in need at the “We Serve LaGrange” packing event at LaGrange First United Methodist Church at 401 Broad Street. At the event, Action Ministries, Feeding the Valley Food Bank and LaGrange FUMC will endeavor to help end hunger and close achievement gaps for children in the community by packing 6,000 snack bags and 2,000 literacy kits to benefit children struggling with hunger in Troup County. The event will include interactive learning stations, fun activities and high-energy packing games.
