On Friday, the Troup County Board of Commissioners provided citizens with a detailed project update regarding the recent launch of a SPLOST IV project on Jim Perry Road in LaGrange. 

The special project, which was launched as an effort to improve safety, reduce long-term maintenance costs and adhere to the concerns of residents in the community, is diligently moving forward and is presently in the construction phase. Since December 2018, the Troup County Roads and Engineering department has finalized all of the initial design work for the project, including utility relocation, parcel right-of-way acquisitions and preliminary erosion control. 

Currently in the construction phase of the project, the department is working on clearing and uprooting stumps, stripping top soil, and completing mass grading to realign, widen and upgrade the road. The next step of the project will focus on the installation of road base and pavement, along with the correction of any safety and/or drainage issues.

Due to the recent extensive weather delays, the project remains ongoing, but the goal of completing the project as soon as possible still remains, weather and resources permitting. The Roads and Engineering department is simultaneously working on resurfacing approximately fifty miles of roads in Troup County this year, along with repairing road shoulders, completing storm drainage culvert replacements, road striping and sign replacements, and implementing speed limit variations.

The county continues to advise all those in the community who are traveling near and on Jim Perry Road to remain alert to new and ongoing road construction, equipment, and driving speeds during the duration of this project.
