Winning night for LHS soccer teams

LaGrange High’s soccer teams closed the regular season on a winning note.

Facing Smiths Station on Thursday, LaGrange High’s boys’ team won 2-0, while LaGrange’s girls’ team held on for a 3-2 victory.

Both LaGrange teams, after winning the Region 5-AAAA championship, will be at home next week for the start of the state tournament.

LaGrange’s girls’ team will host Stephens County on Thursday, and LaGrange’s boys’ team will play North Oconee on Friday.

LaGrange’s girls’ team played at Callaway Stadium on Thursday, and it held off a late charge from Smith Station to win 3-2.

Caroline Thompson scored a pair of goals for LaGrange, and Malone Aldridge had one goal.

Katelyn Peters had a pair of assists, and Izzy Pippin had one assist.

LaGrange (11-7-1) heads into state having won the region championship for a third straight year.

LaGrange advanced to the second round of the state tournament last season before falling to Marist.

LaGrange’s boys’ team closed its stellar regular season with a second consecutive shutout win.

LaGrange beat Auburn on Wednesday 2-0, and it won at Smiths Station by that same score a day later.

Logan Lopez scored 10 minutes into the game on an assist from Johnny McDonald.

It remained a 1-0 game until Harrison Hunnicutt scored on an assist from McDonald.

Goal keeper Jack DeVane had the shutout for LaGrange.

It was the Grangers’ sixth game in eight days, and they went 5-1 during that stretch.

LaGrange, which played a challenging schedule, posted an 11-3-2 regular-season record.

It’s the third-best record among Class AAAA teams.
