The visiting St. Pius X Golden Lions used a pair of strong pitching performances to sweep the Troup Tigers in the opening round of the Class AAAA state playoffs.

In the first game, Daniel Teran threw the seven-inning complete game as St. Pius rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to beat Troup 6-2.

In the second game, Agyei Quinichett went the distance as St. Pius completed the sweep with a 3-2 victory.

While St. Pius advances to the second round to face Denmark, Troup’s season came to a close.

In Wednesday’s second game, Jackson Know threw five strong innings for Troup, giving up six hits and three runs.

Freshman Daniel Martin worked around some trouble in the bottom of the sixth inning to hold St. Pius scoreless and keep it a one-run game.

Needing a run in the top of the seventh to keep the game going, the Tigers went down in order.

Trailing 2-0, the Tigers scored both of their runs in the fourth inning.

Colby Williams led off with a base hit, and Colton Webb followed with a double to put men on second and third.

Cade Garner drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and another run scored when Grayson Garner reached on an error.

St. Pius answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth, and that was it for the scoring.

Williams had two hits for Troup, and Webb, Cade Garner, Grayson Garner and Carson Garner each had a hit.

In game one, the Tigers appeared to be in business after taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but they didn’t score again.

St. Pius scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie it, and it plated two runs in each of the final two innings.

After a shaky start, Teran threw six scoreless innings, and he held Troup to four hits.

Colby Williams went the distance for Troup in the final mound appearance of what was a phenomenal high-school career.

In the first inning, Caleb McCurry led off with a base hit, and Williams and Webb later had back-to-back RBI singles to put Troup on top.

Grayson Garner had Troup’s only hit after the first inning.
