On Thursday, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced that it will close the West Point Welcome Center on Interstate 85 northbound near the Georgia State Line in Troup County on Tuesday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 1.

The facility will be completely closed to the public for the entirety of the two days.

According to a press release from GDOT, the closure is necessary for crews to repair underground sewer piping connected to the facility’s bathrooms.

The Georgia DOT apologizes for the inconvenience.

Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution and reduce their speed while traveling around work zones.

Before heading out, drivers can get real-time information on the status of roadway construction and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org or downloading the free Georgia 511 app.
