Walter Thomas Sims, Sr., entered heaven on April 28, 2019 at the age of 83. Walt is survived by his beloved wife, Gale Ballard Sims of Valley, Alabama; his children, Walter Thomas Sims, Jr. and wife, Terri Snow Sims of Chesapeake, VA, Lisa Sims Hansen and husband, Eric Hansen of Dallas, TX and Sylvia Amanda (Amy) Sims Pearson and husband, Ben Pearson of LaGrange, GA. Grandchildren include, Walter Thomas Sims, III (Bo), Catherine Sims (Cassy), William Sims (Wil), Peter Hansen, Preston Hansen, Hanna Hansen, Bailey Pearson, Parker and wife, Hanna Pearson. His stepchildren, Wayne and Jennifer Petty, Tonya and Greg Stephens and David and Michele Petty. His loved ones also include 8 step grandchildren, and 3 step great grandchildren.

Siblings include his beloved brother, Donald Simms (Kay) of Lanett Alabama; and sister, Rebecca Smith (Charles) of LaGrange; and sister in laws, Frances Holiday Simms, and Peggy Scott Simms of Lanett, Alabama and many, nieces and nephews.

Walt entered the world on November 23, 1935, in Lanett, Alabama, The eighth child of the late Jim Frank and Ludie Ward Simms of Lanett, Alabama. He was also preceded in death by three brothers – Jim Frank, Harold and James Simms; four sisters – Sara Flanagan, Dorothy Benson, Carolyn Ives, and Marion Owen.

A Visitation with the family will be held at Grace Baptist Church, 3731 West Point Road, LaGrange, GA, on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 12-1 pm, followed by a memorial service at 1pm. Full military honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force.
