They’re state-bound.

By virtue of their top-four finishes in the Area 4-AAAA golf tournament on Tuesday at The Fields, the LaGrange and Troup girls’ teams have both earned an invitation to the state tournament in Columbus.

LaGrange finished third, with Sydney Ormsby nearly winning the individual title while shooting a 77.

Troup placed fourth, with Sarah Blanks leading the way with a 97.

Troup was one of the first teams on the course in the 10-team tournament, and coach Kayla Yeargin said “we were holding our breath for a little bit.”

“We finished early, so it was just sit and wait,” Yeargin added. “We knew we’d posted some good scores, so we were just hoping they were good enough.”

The top three scores counted toward the team total.

While Blanks had Troup’s best score, Kyla Bedingfield was next with a 102.

Sydney Lindsey and Taylor Kennedy tied for third spot at

107.

“This has been one of their best days, playing right when they need to,” Yeargin said.

For LaGrange, Ormsby earned a top-five finish with her 77.

Ormsby’s hopes of capturing an individual championship were dashed with a double bogey on the 17th hole, but it was still an outstanding performance for the sophomore.

After her double bogey, Ormsby reset and made sure to finish strong.

“I wasn’t going to blow up again, so I just made sure to par (the 18th)” Ormbsy said.

Ormsby has been splitting her time between two sports this spring.

Ormsby is a standout on the soccer team that will play Blessed Trinity today in the second round of the state playoffs.

While much of her time has been committed to soccer, she did spend a lot of time at the golf course over the weekend preparing for the region tournament.

“I played three times this weekend,” Ormbsy said.

Next for LaGrange was Macee Stone with a 104, and Eileen Hwang completed the scoring with a 115.  Ally Arp shot a 123.
