Troup County implements mass notification system

The Troup County Board of Commissioners announced the implementation of CivicReady, Troup County’s new Emergency Notification System, effective on May 1, 2019.

CivicReady is a mass notification system available from CivicPlus, an integrated technology platform for local government. It will replace the existing emergency alert system, CodeRed, which the county has used for several years. CivicReady offers enhanced user capabilities and will improve emergency communications methods for the community and public safety entities, but previous CodeRed users will need to sign up for CivicReady to begin receiving alerts.

The new system will allow Troup County to issue mass emergency notifications, instructions, warnings and routine communications to subscribed citizens via call, email and/or text message alert in order to keep citizens safe and well-informed. In the event of a local emergency, citizens subscribed to CivicReady notifications will benefit from immediate announcements and instructions sent via their preferred notification channel.

It will also offer automatic language translation capabilities, allowing non-English speaking residents to select one of 60 different languages for the translation of their alerts. The CivicReady software also offers integration with the Federal Management Agency’s Integrated Public Alert Warning System (IPAWS), which will use national emergency communication channels, such as the Emergency Alert System, NOAA weather radios, digital road signage, and television broadcast programs to provide emergency alerts to citizens in specific areas.

“We’re excited for the implementation of this new software because it offers advanced capabilities to the general public through geolocation services and IPAWS notifications,” County Manager Eric Mosley said. “It also allows us to reach our citizens through their preferred method of contact. We’re committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens and providing community awareness, and we believe that this new mass notification solution will help us reach our citizens quickly and more efficiently, especially in the case of an emergency.”

The county is urging the public to sign up for alerts through CivicReady as soon as possible in order to stay connected and well-informed. Citizens can register via Troup County’s website at Troupcountyga.org, or directly at Troupcogov.regroup.com/signup.
