Jada Grant leaped to a first-place finish in the triple jump to lead LaGrange’s track-and-field team during the Class AAAA state sectional in Columbus on Saturday.

Grant, along with a handful of her teammates, will participate in the Class AAAA state finals that will be held in Albany from Thursday to Friday.

To qualify for the finals, a relay team or individual needed to finish eighth or higher in an event at the state sectional.

Grant accomplished that feat in four events.

Grant won the triple jump (38-1.5), she was second in the 100-meter dash (12.25) and the long jump (17-7), and she was a part of a 400-meter relay team (48.73) that was second.

Grant was joined on the relay team by Annaya Chelcy, Zakeria Staples and Quay Robinson.

Also for LaGrange, Annaya Chelcy was second in the 200-meter dash (25.27) and sixth in the 100-meter dash (12.30).

Renaya Edmondson, who has had a big senior season, placed second in the discus.

Zamya Rhaney was eighth in the 3,200-meter run (13:31) and eighth in the 1,600-meter run (5:52), and her twin sister Zanay Rhaney was seventh in the 800-meter run (2:32).

Zakeria Staples earned a seventh-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (48.94).

On the boys’ side, Miller Penn earned a spot in the finals by placing fourth in the 3,200-meter run (10:08).
