Gov. Brian Kemp recently declared May, “Georgia Historic Preservation Month.”

Troup County and LaGrange have an example of Georgia history, which may soon no longer be available for future generations here (as well as state and regionally) to visit and learn of the 97 year impact of radio. The Georgia Radio Museum and Hall of Fame Exhibit documents the arrival of radio here, it’s history in Georgia gives visitors a glimpse of a vast antique radio collection.

The exhibit has been open since December 2018 thanks to the hospitality shown us by Shannon Gavin Johnson, Executive Director of the Legacy Museum on Main.

Unfortunately, there are other groups which deserve exposure at the Legacy Museum, so making it our permanent home is not an option. We are thankful to have had this opportunity. Our organization made LaGrange and Troup County it’s new home in January of 2018. We had previously been in coastal Georgia for 12 years.

We would like to have a permanent home here, however we don’t have the financial resources to purchase a place. We are 501c3 nonprofit with no paid employees and supported by contributions from over 800 members. Last year, we had the first of what will be an annual event. The 13th Annual Induction Awards event will take place Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019, at the conference center at Great Wolf Lodge.

Our goal is to remain an important part of LaGrange and Troup County.

We feel our permanent presence would impact tourism as well as make it an educational and research destination.
