Cougars one win from a title

Lafayette Christian School split a doubleheader with Peachtree Christian Academy on Tuesday, forcing a winner-take-all game on Thursday for the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association state championship.

Game three will be on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Troup High.

Lafayette Christian won Tuesday’s first game 4-3 before falling 1-0 in the second game.

In game one, Peachtree Academy rallied for two runs in the seventh inning to tie it, and Lafayette Christian won it with a run in the

bottom of the eighth on an Adam Barnett base hit, with Devin Lindsey coming home with the winning run.

Barnett not only had the game-winning hit, but he also threw six strong innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs.

Jacob Karvelas pitched two shutout innings to get the win.

Barnett had three hits and two RBIs, Nathan Karvelas and Jacob Karvelas each had two hits, and Tanner Jackson had a hit.

In game two, Nathan Karvelas and Jacob Karvelas combined to hold Peachtree Academy to two hits and one run, but it wasn’t enough.

Peachtree Academy’s Walker Payton threw a complete-game one-hitter with six strikeouts.
