Inventory was emptied out Wednesday, as the Pilot Travel Center on Whitesville Road will permanently close its doors at 7 p.m.

A sign was posted on the doors of the Pilot and on the gas pumps that read the closing time.

“It was our pleasure serving everyone,” read the sign.

Pilot’s location is right off of Interstate 85 and near the vicinity of Great Wolf Lodge in an area where more development is planned. Mayor Jim Thornton didn’t comment on Pilot’s closure, but he said he’s excited forthe development happening in that area.

“I am very excited for the development that is happening out that way,” Thornton said.“Great Wolf was a catalyst for a lot more redevelopment. It was always one of our goals to encourage more development in that location.”

Employees at the location referred The LaGrange Daily News to the corporate office, but Pilot had not been f0r reached comment as of 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
