Last week, we reported that the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame and Museum found a home on Lincoln Street in the Hillside community.

It’s been a year-long search for the hall of fame, which has more than 800 members around the world. John Long, CEO and co-founder of the Hall of Fame, has been working hard over the last 12 months to try to find a permanent home for the hall.

The museum’s artifacts have been on display at the Legacy Museum at the Troup County Archives since December and will remain on display there until June 15. The museum includes dioramas of a 1950 radio studio, books about early radio engineering, an interactive Wall of Fame with the names of inductees into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame and more than 300 antique radios.

The hall first opened in 2007, while the museum opened in 2014 in St. Mary’s, Georgia. Long and his wife, Patti, moved to LaGrange in 2018, and they’ve been trying to find a home for the hall ever since. Now, Long and the radio hall of fame have a more permanent home, and we should consider it a fortunate result that permanent home is in LaGrange.

The cultural and historical opportunities that the radio hall of fame provides to the community are evident. The opportunity to step back in time and understand how the world primarily received breaking news and up-to-the-minute information in another era provides a good reflection point for us all. The world has changed and continues to do so at a dizzying pace, taking time to understand how we got here is a useful endeavor.
