On Friday night, LaGrange tourists will have their first opportunity to embark on a “Strange LaGrange” walking tour, hosted by the Troup County Historical Society Archives and Legacy Museum on Main and southern spirit guide Lewis Powell.

“Tours will be offered every Friday at 7 p.m. throughout the year,” said Janie Stallings, assistant director of museum and programming at the Troup County Archives. “We hope that the weekly ghost tours will be another way the community can learn about Troup County history and have a bit of fun as well.”

Each tour will depart from the Legacy Museum on Main at 7 p.m., rain or shine, and move through downtown LaGrange. Participants are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes and to bring an umbrella if rain is in the forecast.  Stallings said that the “Strange LaGrange” ghost tours will be similar to the ghost tours that are found in Charleston or New Orleans.

“[The tours] will be led by a well-researched docent in plain clothes who can interact with the tour guests,” Stallings said. “This walking tour is different from others we have hosted because it delves into the legends and spirited history of the area.”

The public is invited and encouraged to attend the ghost tour in order to learn more about Troup County’s history.

“We hope to see a large community involvement as the tours continue in the future,” Stallings said. “This is a family-friendly tour, so we want the community to come out, hear some great stories and legends and see the downtown district in a whole new, spooky way.”

The Historical Society is planning to have full tours for up to 20 people every week. Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $18 for Troup County Historical Society members, seniors (65+) and veterans, $15 for kids ages 5 to 12 and free for children under 5-years-old.
