EDITOR’S NOTE: A previous version of this story was unclear on the services provided by Urgencare. The medical clinic can provide X-Ray services, blood work and more.

Rainy weather didn’t keep the new UrgenCare from cutting its ribbon and celebrating open doors on Friday morning.

“This has been something we have been working on upwards for over a year,” said co-partner Jordan Martinec. “This is something Ryan and I have said we have always wanted to do after growing up in this community.”

For Ryan Gatens and Martinec, two of the four partners, this is their way of giving back to the LaGrange community after Martinec was awarded the Hatton Lovejoy Scholarship before starting physician assistant’s school.

“The goal of that (the scholarship) is to give back to the community, and this is our way of doing so,” Martinec said. “I love this community.”

All partners, including Dr. Yomi Oshinowo and cardiologist Dr. Angampally Rajeev, have a trauma background.

“For us, we saw some voids in the community, whether it was from the occupational side to after-hour pediatric care, that we wanted to help fill,” Gatens said.

“This is a way of taking my niche in medicine and giving it back to the community.”

Moving forward, Gatens said they want UrgenCare to be a part of the community as a whole.

“That is what the whole vision started as in the first place,” Gatens said.

The medical facility is equipped to handle patients 6-months and older, handle any care that does not require computed tomography (CT). Services provided include X-Rays, blood work and more. Located at 2169 West Point Road, UrgenCare is open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

“We envision this as something that is growing,” Martinec said. “This is our baby per say right now. We would love to be able to provide for other parts of the community if we can get there, but right now our focus will be on making this successful and helping this side of town.”
