The City of LaGrange is holding its next monthly litter cleanup event Saturday, June 15 from 8 until 10 a.m. on the second segment of The Thread by Eastside Park, located at 240 Niles Street.

This event will be one of The Thread’s Pop-up events this summer. The city is partnering with the LaGrange Housing Authority for this event.

This event will include a scavenger hunt with prizes. This is family-friendly event and is always free and open to the public. The city will provide vests, trash bags and gloves.

The City of LaGrange celebrated its one year anniversary in April since beginning its “Leaving LaGrange Better Than We Found It” litter cleanup campaign.

Friday, April 26, hundreds of city employees as well as dozens of citizens spent the morning picking up litter throughout the city’s main thoroughfares.

The city partnered with several local businesses as well, including Caterpillar, Calumet Bank, Duracell, Bowman Hollis, Jindal Films, Hobby Lobby, Houze and Associates, McKeen Realty & LaGrange Academy.

City Manager Meg Kelsey began the litter cleanup campaign in April 2018 hoping to send a message to the community that the City of LaGrange is serious about cleaning up our community.

This initial event was so successful the city decided to begin hosting monthly litter pickups.

“It has been an eye opening experience for me to participate in these cleanup events. Getting out into the community, working side by side with employees and residents and beautifying the community has been a very rewarding experience,” said City of LaGrange City Manager Meg Kelsey. “We hope that everyone will consider joining us by adopting a spot. Dedicating even an hour or two is extremely helpful in not only cleaning up the environment but also communicating the importance in being litter free.”

The City of LaGrange will continue to host monthly litter pickups throughout the year.
