During Monday night’s Hogansville city council meeting, the council voted unanimously to maintain the millage rate at 7.95 mils and voted 5-1 to submit names for review for parks at West End and Green Avenue.

The council took time to recognize Hogansville Police Chief Brian Harr for his service to the community.

“It is an honor to recognize the five years of service that you have given to the community,” said City Manager David Milliron said. “You’re loved by Hogansville and beyond.”

A resolution for an application for Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources Georgia Heritage Grant program brought forward by Lynne Miller was approved, which will pay part of the cost of an early rehabilitation task. In this case that early rehabilitation task is the city’s Building Envelop Stabilization of the Royal Theater.

“This is another grant that we will be chasing,” Miller said. “This is basically to help rebuilding and rehabilitating publicly owned, National Register-listed properties.”

According to Miller, the grants will pay 60% of eligible grant costs and the request will be for $40,000.

The council also appointed representatives to the Cemetery Board, Historic Preservation Commission and the LaGrange Airport Advisory board.

Robert Leek was appointed to the Cemetery Board for a full three-year term. Roseanna Prado was appointed to the Historic Preservation Commission and Wanda Lowe and Carol Smith were both reappointed to the commission as well. Chris Tucker was reappointed for a five-year term to the airport advisory board.

In other actions the city council planned a town hall meeting for July 11 at 6 p.m.
