Troup teams heading to Thomaston

The road to the World Series begins in Thomaston for a pair of local all-star teams.

The Dixie Youth Baseball 9-10-year-old District 1 tournament will be held in Thomaston, with the top-two finishers advancing to the state tournament in Swainsboro.

The state champions will participate in the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series in Lumberton, N.C.

The double-elimination district tournament begins on Friday, and a champion will be crowned on Monday or Tuesday.

Two Troup County teams are hoping to make a run at a district championship, and they’ll both be in action on Friday.

Troup National number two will play Thomaston at 6 p.m., and Troup National number one will take on Manchester at 8 p.m.

All four teams will play again on Saturday.

First up will be an elimination game at 10 a.m. between the two losers of Friday’s games.

The winners of Friday’s games will play at noon on Saturday for the right to play for the district championship.

The tournament continues on Monday at 6 p.m., with the two remaining one-loss teams squaring off.

The final two teams will meet at 8 p.m. on Monday in the championship round, and if needed, a final game would be played on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Two other Troup County all-star teams are preparing for their respective state tournaments.

The Troup National 7-8-year-old all-star team, after placing second in the district tournament, will compete in the state tournament that begins on Friday in Cochran.

The Troup National 11-12-year-old all-star team will be in Swainsboro for the state tournament starting on July 5.
