SWAINSBORO – The bad news for the Troup County 11-12-year-old all-stars is that they dropped both of their games on Saturday in the Dixie Youth Baseball state tournament.

The good news for the Troup all-stars is that those games were strictly for seeding purposes, leading into the double-elimination portion of the tournament this week.

Troup, Swainsboro and Wrens will compete for the state championship from Friday through Sunday.

Swainsboro is the number one seed, Wrens is seeded second.

Troup is the third seed.

Those three teams played a round-robin series of games on Saturday.

Troup fell to Wrens 4-0 in its tournament opener, and it lost to Swainsboro 11-4 in its next game.

Swainsboro went 2-0 in pool play, and Wrens was 1-1.

The tournament resumes on Friday, with Troup and Wrens facing off at 6 p.m.

The winner of the state tournament qualifies for the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series in August.
