City of LaGrange team to participate in 2019 Dragon Boat Race

The City of LaGrange plans to participate in the fourth annual West Point Lake Dragon Boat Race this Saturday, July 13 at Pyne Road Park.

The West Point Lake Dragon Boat Race benefits Harmony House Domestic Violence Shelter in LaGrange. Harmony House provides emergency shelter, security, crisis-intervention, education and advocacy for adults and children who are victims of domestic violence. 

Thirty teams & approximately 630 people will be participating in this year’s West Point Lake Dragon Boat Race.

The City of LaGrange’s 2019 team is called “The Smokin’ Pigs.” Team members include Josh Clower, Rachael Crandall, Tracy White, Chad Dallas, Eric Lohr, Charles Purchase, Dale Strickland, Amy Strickland, Zack Domantay, Michette Moon, Marcy Miles, Mitch Cummings, Leigh Threadgill, Jennie Lawson, Jeremy Butler, Mark Cavender, Jim McLaughlin, Scott Bowen, William Phillips, Brandi Capes, Natalie Hale, Marshall McCoy, John Brant and Chris McGhee.

A dragon boat race consists of a drummer and 20 paddlers in a 46-foot-long dragon boat competing against another boat. Races and matches will be taking place all through the morning and into the afternoon. The festivities begin at 8:15 a.m. There will be food trucks and vendors. The event is free and open to the public.
