The Chattahoochee Valley Educational Foundation Board of Trustees recently announced Springwood School’s new Head of School, Lowrie McCown, according to a press release from the school.

At the conclusion of a thorough search process, McCown was unanimously voted as the next head of school, effective July 8, 2019.

According to the press release, when the transition team embarked on this search in the spring, it was determined that the ideal candidate must possess a strong knowledge of educational best practices for a K-12 independent school while also being a proven leader who has the skills to unite diverse groups of teachers, coaches, students and parents. In addition, the transition team was searching for a candidate who exhibited strong Christian values and showed a passion for preparing students to be lifelong learners. The board is confident that a leader of this caliber has been found in McCown, according to the press release.

McCown’s most recent educational experience includes seven years as the associate head of school in one of Atlanta’s most respected independent schools, King’s Ridge Christian School (KRCS). KRCS, co-founded by former Braves player John Smoltz, is an academically focused private school that grew from 620 to 850 students under the leadership of McCown. His experience in an independent school setting, with an emphasis on academic excellence and extra-curricular enrichment, is a match with Springwood’s mission.
