Over the weekend the Hogansville Police Department serviced more than 100 animals that were microchipped or given Parvo or Bordetella shots. 

HPD code enforcement officer, Jennifer Baker, said she only had a month to plan the event, but it ended up being something “huge.”

“We had such a good event,” Baker said. “We ran out of shots and LaGrange Animal Control had to go back and bring in more microchips.”

The event started at 10 a.m., but dog and cat owners from all over Troup County started lining up for the event around 9 a.m. 

“We are so thankful, because of all the people that donated, we were able to do this event,” Baker said. “One thing we want to prepare for is a bigger crowd next year. I was absolutely floored and really impressed with the amount of people that came out.”

Baker said that approximately four animals of the 10 that Merriweather County Animal Shelter brought were adopted, one even by Baker. 

“My children talked me into it,” Baker said. 

The event, held in downtown Hogansville, was such a success that Baker said the city is ready for it next year and hopes that HPD will be able to provide more amenities and shots. 

“We hope that the success of this event will drive more numbers next year,” Baker said. “This was our first one and we didn’t know what to expect.”

Baker said that she was nervous people would not show up, but the exact opposite happened, even with short notice and limited window of time to get the word out. 

“Thankfully we were able to get the word out everywhere,” Baker said. “I was ecstatic to have the number we had show up.”
