A 70-year-old man drowned in a pool on John Lovelace Road on Saturday, according to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim was identified as Gary Massey. He had been swimming alone and was found unresponsive by his wife at the bottom of the deep end of the pool.

Unable to swim, she tried to throw flotation devices and eventually jumped in the pool. When she realized he was completely unresponsive, she called 911.

Massey was transported to WellStar West Georgia Emergency Department where he was pronounced deceased.
