Our View: Dancing the night away for a cause

Published 7:15 pm Wednesday, July 31, 2019

Dancing partners have been gearing up for the past few months for the Friends of The Thread’s second annual Dancing for The Thread fundraiser and competition on Saturday.

All tickets were completely sold out within a short period, and more than 70 percent of the $70,000 fundraising goal has been raised.

After forming in 2016, FOTT plays a key role in the maintenance, segment planning, community relations and finding funding for The Thread trail.

The community has benefited tremendously from The Thread in a short time period. Communities, groups and people are now connecting together through the completed trails, which are just the foundation for the 20 plus miles to come.

Go for stroll or run along The Thread in the morning hours, and you will find running groups, teachers, parents, students and more. The walkway allows community members a safe place to get some exercise.

There are countless routes avid distance runners and walkers can take. For anyone who loves to bike, it is a way to avoid traffic and safely spin those wheels.

Events like Dancing for The Thread are beneficial to the community and the future of The Thread, and even though it is sold out, FOTT will have a live stream on Facebook and LGTV.

Even if you cannot make it to the event, you can still donate and vote for each competing team until the last dancer completes their performance. The money goes toward future trails for The Thread.
