School is starting in less than two weeks, and we have seen multiple organizations step up to the plate to hold school supply drives or use their skills to give back to the community. 

Nail Factory is passing out 400 items of school supplies on Monday and also painting the nails of any kindergarten through fifth grade student. 

Ethel W. Kight Elementary hosted a back to school bash and handed out a total of 100 backpacks donated from employees of OneCoast. 

Troup County Government is hosting a back to school supply drive for local children in need within the Troup County School System. The drive ends on Aug. 9 and can be dropped off at a multitude of locations. 

On Saturday morning, Aug. 3, The Salvation Army in partnership with Walmart, will hold a Pack the Bus event. The nationwide Walmart campaign encourages members of the community to donate school supplies and other school-related necessities. These donations will be given to children in need in the community.  

The twelfth annual ‘Haircutz & Stylez 4 Kidz’ free hair cutting event will be held on Aug. 11 and the first 100 students to arrive will receive a free backpack and school supplies. 

There are many more events going on and community members and groups who are working behind the scenes to help make sure children in the Troup community are taken care of before school starts, which speaks to the great people who live in this community. 

We encourage you step up and help these groups, companies and organizations help students who could be your neighbor, on your child’s sports team or next to you at the store.
