Cartavious “Tank” Bigsby, Callaway’s outstanding senior running back, is ready to make his decision.

Bigsby, coming off an extraordinary junior season, will announce what college he plans on signing with during a ceremony at Callaway High on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Bigsby is one of the state’s most highly-recruited players, and he has offers from big-time programs from coast-to-coast.

Bigsby, in an interview posted on Rivals.com, said he knows what school he’s going to commit to, but he won’t announce it until Friday.

“I have the school in mind,” Bigsby said. “I know the one I will commit to on Friday night. I have my mind made up. I have been feeling this school for a while.”

Bigsby had a special 2018 season for a Callaway team that went 11-3 and reached the Class AA semifinals.

Bigsby ran for 2,221 yards on 238 attempts with 22 touchdowns, and he also caught 13 passes for 222 yards.

Matt Napier, Callaway’s offensive coordinator, said Bigsby’s versatility is part of his selling point.

“He’s 215 pounds, and he’s a load, he’s super-fast, and he can catch the ball, too,” Napier said. “You can put him in the slot, and he’s as good as a lot of slot receivers. He made a lot of plays.”

Bigsby had some of his finest performances in the season’s biggest games, and he ran for 778 yards with four touchdowns in four playoff games.

In a second-round game against defending state-champion Hapeville-Charter, Bigsby had 238 yards on 26 attempts with four touchdowns.

Bigsby also ran for 314 yards with two touchdowns in the first round of the playoffs against Elbert County, and he ran for more than 300 yards against region rival Bremen.

Bigsby is one of a handful of Callaway players with offers from major programs.

One of those players, offensive lineman Tate Johnson, has already committed to Auburn.

Jacob Freeman, who has played quarterback and wide receiver, has offers from Oregon and Georgia Tech, among others.

Callaway opens its season on Aug. 22 at Opelika, and it has a preseason game against Starr’s Mill on Aug. 16 at Callaway Stadium.
