LCDR John W. Slauson

LCDR John W. Slauson, Retired, United States Navy, 84, of the Robert Hodnett Road Pine Mountain Georgia passed away Sunday, July 28, 2019 at his home surround by his loving family.
LCDR Slauson was born October 26, 1934 in Norwalk Connecticut the son of the late Milton A. and Dorothy E. Austin Slauson. John was a graduate of Norwalk High School class of 1953 and briefly attended the University of Bridgeport before graduating from the University of Alabama in 1957 with a B.S. degree in Business.
His Military Service spanned from the United States Army (PFC) to U.S. Navy Offices Candidate’s School, Newport Rhode Island and U.S. Naval Supply Corps School, Athens, GA. From 1958-1961 he had various tours of duty, U.S. Navy Officer. 1961 to 1963 he was a supply officer at the U.S. Naval Facility, Barbados, West Indies, 1963 to 1965 he was Assistant Stock Control officer, Naval Air Station Corpus Christi TX. , 1965 to 1967 Stores/food service Officer aboard the U.S.S. Roosevelt and completing his active duty at Charleston S.C. transferring to the U. S. Navy Reserves. LCDR Slauson was decorated with numerous medals, ribbons and accommodations for his excellent service to his country. Some of the medals John received were the Viet-nam Service medal with Campaign Star and Republic of Viet-Nam Campaign medal with device.
In 1969, John continued his food training in the following business, Wesley Woods, Northside Hospital, and Grady Memorial Hospital. His expertise in food service transitioned him into Sales at John Sexton & Company where he responsible for wholesale institution groceries to hospitals, hotels, and restaurants. After leaving food service, John enveloped himself in to the construction industry founding Atlanta Advantage Construction and finally involved with Carlson Southeast Corporation in various assignments in construction supervision in huge building projects in the southeastern United States.
He was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Survivors include, His loving wife, Gayle Hodnett Slauson, Pine Mt. GA; children, Mechelle (Huby) King, Pine Mt. GA, James (TomiSue) Hodnett, LaGrange, GA, Valerie Stiner, Pasadena, TX; 6 grandsons, Justin King, Ryan King, Alex Slauson, Chris Slauson Brian Stiner, Daniel Stiner; 4 Great-grandchildren
Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2019 from the Oak Grove Congregational Christian Church cemetery. The Reverend Nelson Furtado, Jr. officiating. Naval Military honors will be accorded. The family requests that those attending be comfortable and to honor “Wes’s” love for Alabama and Alabama football wear the “Crimson tide”. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
