The Georgia Department of Transportation will hold a Public Detour Open House for Project # 0013941 in Troup County on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the West Point Tech Training Center at 1122 O. G. Skinner Drive in West Point, Georgia, according to a press release from the GDOT.

This project proposes to replace the existing bridge on Georgia 1/US 27 over Flat Shoal Creek, located 8 miles southeast of LaGrange in Troup County, Georgia. The existing bridge consists of two 12-foot lanes (one in each direction) and two-foot shoulders. The bridge is 244-feet long. The proposed bridge would be constructed in place along existing alignment, and would be 244-feet in length with two 12-foot lanes (one in each direction) and 10-foot outside shoulders.

An approximate 16.3 mile off-site detour would be needed during construction of the proposed bridge, which involves a 5.4 mile trip increase. The proposed detour would require traffic to travel along Georgia 18 and Interstate 185/Georgia 411.

The purpose of the Public Detour Open House is to provide the public with an opportunity to view the project and proposed detour, ask questions and comment on the project.

According to the press release, the Public Detour Open House will be informal and the public is invited to attend at any time during the hours listed above. There will be no formal presentation. A court reporter will be available to allow the public an opportunity to make verbal comments about the project.

Americans with Disabilities Act Information: The meeting site is accessible to persons with disabilities. Accommodations for people with disabilities can be arranged with advance notice by calling Harland Smith at (706) 646-7566.
