On Sunday around 2:40 a.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to reports of a suspicious fire on the 100 block of Melrose Drive, according to a press release from LPD.

Upon arrival, officers reportedly made contact with the home owner, who said they were alerted by a neighbor that flames were coming from the owner’s semi-truck. The truck was parked in the front yard.

The owner reportedly told police that he saw small flames coming from his tires, and he was able to extinguish the fire quickly. He provided LPD with video footage of the incident, which showed what appeared to be a young, white male running from the scene carrying a gas can.

According to Sgt. William Nelson, officers recovered a gas can believed to have been used to start the fire near the scene, and the gas can is being tested for latent evidence.
