LaGrange softball team rallies for win

Trailing by a run, LaGrange rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat Cairo 7-6 on Friday night in the GADC tournament at East Coweta.

With one out, Mariana Ceja reached on an error, and Mary James Stogner came home with the winning run.

Madison Dennis had two hits for LaGrange with two RBIs, and Abby Vanhoose had two hits and an RBI.

Ceja, Jacee Marable and Macee Stone each had one hit and an RBI, and Holly Lynn, Kirsten Williams and Camden Smith had one hit apiece.

Smith pitched all nine innings for LaGrange, and she had 13 strikeouts.

Earlier on Friday, LaGrange was held to two hits in a 12-0 loss to East Coweta.

Dennis had both of LaGrange’s hits.

LaGrange plays two more games today in the tournament.

After facing Decatur at 10 a.m., LaGrange plays Tattnall Square Academy at noon.

TROUP: Troup’s softball team, taking a break from Region 5-AAAA play, lost to home-standing Upson-Lee 15-1 on Thursday.

Leading 7-1, Upson-Lee scored eight runs in the bottom of the third inning, and the game after the top of the fourth inning because of the run rule.

Skye Loftin had two hits for Troup, including an RBI double.

Olivia McInvale and Caroline McInvale also had hits for Troup.

Gracie Self had three hits and three RBIs for Upson-Lee, and Julia Walden had a hit and four RBIs.

Troup returns to region play on Saturday with a home doubleheader against Cartersville, with the first game beginning at noon.
