Grangers fare well in cross country

Miller Penn raced to a seventh-place finish to help LaGrange High’s boys’ cross-country team earn a second-place result in the season-opening Zack Wansley race in Douglasville on Saturday.

Penn’s time of 17 minutes, 26 seconds was good enough for seventh place, with Lovett’s Jackson Borden (15:56) grabbing the top spot.

Also for LaGrange, Alex Bowie (17:31) placed ninth to earn a top-10 finish.

Next for LaGrange was John McDonald (17:36) in 13th, and Nathan Fritchley (17:59) and Matthew Callaway (18:08) were 23rd and 25th, respectively.

Also for LaGrange, Alex Martin (18:15) was 27th, and Christian Ceja (19:15) was 43rd.

In the varsity girls’ race, LaGrange placed third.

Zamya Rhaney (21:57) led LaGrange with a 14th-place finish, and Zanay Rhaney (22:01) was 5th.

Lauren Farris (22:33) added a 19th-place finish, and Anna Doerr (23:57) and Ivorie Smith (24:14) were 30th and 33rd, respectively.

Delfina Martinez (25:19) placed 43rd, and Chloe Morman (25:23) was one spot back in 44th.

There was also a junior-varsity race, and Aaron Fritchley (19:29) led LaGrange with a third-place finish.

Other junior-varsity runners for LaGrange were Terry Franklin (19:33), Jaylen Brown (21:38), Will Allred (22:45), Ethan Sims (22:49), Alec Morrissette (22:54), Andy Patton (23:36), James Burgos (24:30), Julian Santiago (24:56), Carter Crites (25:15) and Cam Larry (28:05).

In the girls’ junior-varsity race, Tatum Fritchley (25:30) was ninth, Sophie Nix (26:09) placed 12th, and Lily Skipworth (28:54) finished 28th.

Troup also participated in the race in Douglasville.

For Troup’s boys’ team, Christian Gay (20:05) led the way with a 55th-place finish, and Clay Webb (20:50) was 60th.

Troup’s other runners were Ryan Key (21:58), Jacob Bearden (22:15), Wesley Bartlett (22:16), Tyler Cardwell (24:28), Zach Taylor (24:56) and Jacob Walker (29:08).

Allie Foster (26:10), Amanda McCartney (26:43), Catherine Leveritt (31:20) and Anna Barintine (24:28) competed for Troup’s girls’ team.
